I simply have my windmill at 20 feet high, but enough because during my yard there won't be any obstructions with respect to the wind flow. I am by using a charge controller which regulates the output to my batteries. Granted, owning an electrical deatailed has probably given me some what of the advantage over another person.

PVC pipe-to create your blades making your turbine body.

Tower or stand-I used two-inch rigid conduit.

Batteries-I am using deep cycle batteries since they recover quickly to full storage.

Charge controller-used to the output for your batteries.

Inverter-an inverter changes DC voltage to AC house current that may then be utilized for household electrical items.

Wiring-should be performed by someone who knows what they are doing, if doubtful hire yourself an electrical contractor.
It may appear complicated in the beginning, but usually if you have the ability to produce stuff along with your hands, then I am certain that you can create your own windmill for your home.
